F Is For...

My theme for the A To Z Challenge 2014 is things I’ve learnt from movies. Some are serious, some are silly. And some I was clutching at straws.
I’ve tried to find clips of said movies where possible. So if I couldn’t find a clip and you haven’t seen the movie… well you’ll have to take my word for it.

F is for Face/Off.

Face/Off is one of my all time favourite films. It is awesome.

Basic plot:

To foil an extortion plot, an FBI agent undergoes a face-transplant surgery and assumes the identity and physical appearance of a ruthless terrorist, but the plan backfires when the same criminal impersonates the cop with the same method.

Now what I've learnt from Face/Off is a strange one I suppose. What I learnt was that you can very quickly be persuaded to suspend disbelief whilst watching a film.

I mean they can now do face transplants (at the time of this film being made however it was more like science fiction) however it has been established that the recipient of the face will not end up looking like the donater of the face due to bone structure, muscles etc.

Which means the basic premise of this film is absurd - you couldn't make John Travolta and Nicolas Cage look exactly like each other... not just by switching faces anyway and not temporarily.

Just look at the differences in their faces/head shape:

Not to mention the fact that their body shapes are different (although apparently they are a similar height. I would have sworn that Cage was taller - apparently not).

But whilst watching this movie none of this crosses your mind. It's just something that occurs to you hours or days (or even weeks or months) after you've watched it.

But it is still one of the most awesome movies ever made! (this film is rated 18 in the UK)

Travolta and Cage!? Switch faces(kind of)?!
How have I not seen this gem. It does sound absurd from just reading the summary but still with the actors involved I really want to watch it now. and if it makes it even slightly believable it might just well be worth it.

Thanks for this.

I think I did see this, a long time ago. As you say, an absurd premise but well acted they can convince you of anything.
