The Day Of the Do Over Is Here!

Yes it's the Deja Vu Blogfest!

Hosted by DL Hammons all you have to do is repost one of your blog posts from earlier in the year, whether it be your favourite or one that you think should have more exposure or whatever.

So it starts today and ends on the 20th so there is still time for you to sign up and dig out that old post from this year that you are particularly fond of.


So my offering comes from way back in May - the 29th May to be exact.

I occasionally take part in a meme called Fast Five Friday and on that particular day you had to list your 5 favourite childhood cartoons - and I really enjoyed that trip down memory lane so I thought I'd deja vu it so you can all wander down memory lane with my favourite childhood cartoons (and 1 plasticine creation too!).

So here we go back through the mists of time (feel free to imagine the opening credits to Doctor Who at this point)...

Fast Five Friday is a weekly meme hosted by the Cover Girls. Basically each week there will be a subject for you to list 5 things... that's all there is to it. Once you've posted your list go and leave a comment on the Cover Girls FFF post for that week so other people can read yours.

This week's subject: 5 Childhood Cartoons

I couldn't wait to write this post... being a bit of a geek I actually have t-shirts and DVDs... and cookie cutters of some of my favourite cartoons from when I was a kid (I was born in the 80s - the time of fantastic kids shows)

So here are my five complete with theme tunes :)

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - of course in the UK during the 80s they were known as Hero Turtles instead of Ninjas.

2. The Real Ghostbusters

 

3. Count Duckula

4. The Trap Door - ok so it's not technically a cartoon... but it's still a kids show

5. Looney Tunes - they're still around today but they originate from well before I was born - so technically they are childhood cartoons for everyone!

Today Is The Day Of The Do Over

As the title suggests today is the day of the do over or the Deja Vu Blogfest as hosted by DL Hammons. I wasn't sure what to post at first, the last year on this blog has mainly consisted of random quotes and book related weekly event type things. But then I remembered this post where I revisited my t-shirt collection.

I Have Too Many! T-Shirts: Take Two

A while back now I posted about how I had too many t-shirts.

Well it was only really a half a*sed attempt. I wasn't sure I'd got all my t-shirts and I ended up showing my readers a measly 15 t-shirts. So I thought I'd take another run at it - a whole 3 and a half years later.

So this is going to be a fairly picture heavy post. You may recognise a few t-shirts from the previous post and you may notice that there are some missing :( and some new editions :)

I would have posted this sooner only I was missing the last couple of t-shirts and they have only recently resurfaced.

P.S. this does not include the plain t-shirts that I wear to work or the t-shirts I wear in bed... if I added all those I'd have to split this post in to at least 2 parts.

So it would appear I now have 30 t-shirts of this kind.

I was inspired to take another run at this post by IISuperwomanII as she celebrated her 300th video. She has many, many more t-shirts than me :)

So there you have it - a look back at my t-shirt collection... which has already grown since I originally posted this post.

It has been aaagggeeesss since I took part in a blogfest - there's been plenty around but I'm that far behind with my blog reading that I only seem to find out about them after they've taken place.

I only found out that this blogfest was taking place again this year a couple of days ago. So it was a mad scramble to find a post I wanted to repost.

DL Hammons has decided to make the Deja Vu Blogfest an annual event.

So I decided to repost A Tale Of One Tortoise that you can read in it's original June post here.

A Tale Of One Tortoise

Before I share this tale let me tell you that tortoises aren’t as slow as everyone thinks. Once they warm up and get going they can move at some speed (OK so the hare would probably still win as long as it didn't take a nap). One minute they are there the next… GONE!!!

So anyway…

We have a pet tortoise who goes by the name of Lily (I’ve no idea why her name is that).

When she gets quite warm and active she starts trying to claw her way out of her tank. So we let her out for a walk around the house.

Lily seems to have a fondness for hide and seek as she will wander off and hide in a corner, often pushing things out of the way to get to them (she’s quite strong for her size).

And then we spend ages looking for her under and behind various pieces of furniture, under the curtains, those kinds of places.

With the recent warm weather we have been letting her have a jaunt around the back garden (she likes dandelions) but only if there is someone out there to keep an eye on her.

The other day it was my Dad… who seemed to have forgotten the speed at which tortoises can move at once they get going (especially in the sun – she must be solar powered).

So one minute our house was peaceful the next my Dad is bellowing the war cry that he had lost the tortoise – last seen heading for around the back of the shed.

So I started looking for her, then my brother and Mum were enrolled by my Dad for tortoise hunting duty.

While my Dad grumbled about it not being funny and the rest of us telling him that he was supposed to be watching her I noticed through the chain link fence (and whatever the plants are growing in front of it) that our next door neighbour was acting strangely. He put a box upside down on the floor at the end of his garden.

After a few more minutes of searching the neighbour seemed to notice us… given that we were all stood behind the shed under a tree and asked us if we had lost a tortoise.

Lily had only found a hole in the chain link fence!

Who knows where she would have ended up if the neighbour hadn’t spotted her?

Well it took us slightly longer to get her back as the neighbour, having never come across a real life tortoise before, was reluctant to pick her up.

We assured him that she didn’t bite and she wasn’t that heavy… after all she’s not an alligator snapping turtle nor is she a giant tortoise (if she was a giant tortoise she’d have probably taken the fence with her!).

So until we can get some sort of run made for her Lily has been grounded!

She still likes to play hide and seek with us... my Dad ended up building a little makeshift wall about 6 inches high out of bricks. Lily patrolled it and investigated for structural weakness - so far she hasn't found any but at this time of year she is confined to the house anyway.

Have I Read this Somewhere Before?

It took me a while to trawl through my blog posts from the nearly two years to find one that I thought should have a second airing. I thought about presenting you with the first part of A Tale Of Five Fish but that is the first of a five part series so I decided to go for a stand alone post.

So I settled on this post from 4th December 2010 (you can see it in it's original glory state here).

I give you Snowpocalypse!



I got up on the 1st December 2010 to discover everywhere had turned in to a winter wonderland. Well more winter than wonder really.


I quickly found out that I would have to walk to work as all the buses in the area had been suspended. So on the 1st of December I set off just before eight in the morning and walked to work. The snow was so deep in places it almost came to the top of my wellies. And I measured them and my boots are 14 inches high.

It took me 45 minutes to walk to work in which time my feet had gone numb. Which was good in a way as it meant I couldn't really feel the two large blisters on my heels developing. However once I arrived at work and I began to heat up I soon knew that they were there.
And then I had to limp all the way home again a few hours later. My place of work closed at midday as there were few of us who had actually managed to get to work.


I awoke on 2nd December to find out that once again I would have to walk to work again. But my wellies didn't come with me this time. Oh no, not again. So this time I wore my shorter but more comfortable walking boots to work.
The previous night a snow plough had gone down our road and so there was now a thin strip of road that was more or less free of snow. As the pavement was still a foot deep with snow I decided to walk down the middle of the road.
And so there I was before eight in the morning. Walking down the middle of the road, with not a single person in sight. I felt like I was in a disaster movie of some sort. It was ten minutes later when I hit the main road before I saw another person.
And then as I got closer to the town centre the more 'survivors' appeared as we all seemed to drift towards where the last of the population was gathering.


Now I have told you about my encounter with near apocalypse I have two things I wish to mention.


1) Compeed blister plasters are fantastic - the regular plasters I was using did nothing to help, I might as well not have bothered. But the Compeed ones are great - they do exactly as they say on the tin...and I haven't been paid or given anything to say that it is just my opinion.


2) Now this is just a minor rant at how stupid some people can be. The snow may have been dispersed a little so it isn't quite as deep on the pavement however it is still almost impossible to walk on the pavement so you have to risk your life walking down the road now that there is more traffic about again.
Why?
Some of my neighbours have decided to clear their driveways to get their cars out. What is wrong with that I hear you say?
Well they have cleared the snow by shovelling the snow to the sides. So you walk along the pavement and then suddenly you are faced with a wall of snow that is almost two feet high!
So you manage to navigate your way around that one...and then you come across another one, and another.
Some people have no common sense whatsoever. Just as long as they are OK everyone else can go to hell. Now I saw some people who cleared their drives who were putting the snow behind the driveway gates - that is a good idea as you have cleared the drive but not built an obstacle course in the process.
