Random Thought #27 - Alcohol & Gender Stereotypes

I went to a retirement party yesterday. It was a buffet, so it was a mad dash to go get your food and actually reclaim the seat you had.

A guy came to sit at our table, next to the only other guy at our table. The guy already sitting there saw a pint of lager at that particular place that hadn't been there before.

Sitting Guy (who was already close to drunk): Who is sitting here? A man has been sitting here?

That comment made me wonder what he would have said had I gone and got a pint of cider to drink (which I have done in the past I'll have you know - I like drinking cider) instead of the Archers and lemonade I had. That would have thrown his world view in to disarray. A woman drinking a pint... and not of water!?!? Whoever heard of such a thing?

But I didn't do it as I had already been called Miss Quiet and Miss Prim by the guy whose party it was for drinking alchopops (they were a £1 a bottle OK?) straight from the bottle - no straw. So sorry if I'm quiet and polite when I'm at work.

If they only knew what I'm like at home!

Oh they would be surprised what they'd find out about me if they really got to know me

Here's a thought: I've never seen a man sipping an apple martini. ::shrugs::

And straws are so not necessary while drinking alcohol, haha! Once I was sitting in a public place drinking a root beer with a straw and a police officer asked to see what I was drinking. I was like, would I be here drinking a beer with a straw?

Stopping in from the LBS tea party.

What your drinking habits at home is for you to know and that man to find out.

Enjoyed the read.
Enjoy your week-end.

Classic NYer - you clearly have never watched Scrubs then. JD is always drinking appletinis... well he's male anyway. An odd version of a man I have to say :)
