I’ve tried to find clips of said movies where possible. So
if I couldn’t find a clip and you haven’t seen the movie… well you’ll have to
take my word for it.
V is for Van Helsing.
The plot:
The notorious monster hunter is sent to Transylvania to stop Count
Dracula who is using Dr. Frankenstein's research and a werewolf for some
sinister purpose.
What I learnt from Van Helsing is that monks and friars are different things.
I've got a couple of examples which I couldn't actually find a clip of. In fact in the trailer I don't think I saw Carl the Friar at all so you'll have to take my word for it. (this movie is rated 12 in the UK).
Van Helsing: No, I'm going to use yours - you're coming with me.
Carl: Oh, to hell and be damned I am!
Van Helsing: Carl, you just cursed! Not well mind you but you're a monk. You shouldn't curse at all.
Carl: Actually I'm just a friar so I can curse all I want... dammit!
Fast forward a bit...
Carl: [after saving the woman from the vampire children] They've all died.
Barmaid: Oh, thank you! You saved me.
[kisses him on the cheek]
Barmaid: How can I repay you?
[Carl leans in and whispers something in her ear]
Barmaid: But you can't do that! You are a monk!
Carl: Actually, I'm a just a friar.

So what exactly is the difference, you didn't say?
A good theme selection for the #Challenge. Interesting how a persons taste in movies changes through the years. I'm done with violence and the F word, etc. A sucker for a movie with a cast of great English actors and actresses. Thank goodness there are a few of those every year.
I've managed to not see this one yet. Hm. No idea what the difference between the two is.
Happy A to Z-ing!

Well from the movie I've established that Friars can curse... and... how to put this tactfully... have sex out of wedlock... this would be so much easier if you had seen the movie.
