Today's previously unknown word that begins with 'I' is:
iamb (eye-am) or iambus n, pl iambs or iambuses prosody a metrical foot of two syllables, a short one followed by a long one [Greek iambos]
Now that might seem like a complicated definition. However thanks to a comment on my post defining 'dactyl' from Donna of Mainely Write I'm pretty sure I understand what it means.

Iamb is not familiar, but Iambic pentameters in poetry definitely are.

Erm... I'm not sure I understood this, or Donna's comment! Maybe I should read this when I haven't just spent the day at work!
That confused me completely but with the help of Donna's comment I think I've got it now :)
I only know it from iambic pentameter which Shakespeare used. He did a pretty impressive job for sticking to it so well!
Poetry stuff - something I could never get into. But it is a good work for I. :)
