Sad Songs Blogfest (Or Why I Love Michael Bublé)

I only recently discovered this blogfest – two days ago in fact – just as final preparations for the Blogging From A To Z Challenge are taking place. So I haven’t had time to blog about it separately to tell you all about it rapidly approaching.

But the blogfest title struck a cord with me (struck a cord… get it? Music… cords… oh never mind).

It is being hosted by Spunk On A Stick and the rules are simple:

“List the songs that move your spirit, cut deep into your soul, and threaten to break your heart.
No limit - top ten or less is fine.”

I find that a lot of my favourite songs are either sad or have a vaguely depressing subject/lyrics (Although I do have some favourite songs that are more upbeat).

But some of the songs on my list may not be songs that you immediately view as sad. I was going to add a few words under watch song title about why I chose them but when it came to it I couldn’t explain why I had chosen them.

These may or may not be the original versions of these songs but they are the versions I listen to the most.

I ended up with eleven in total (hopefully I have managed to get it to work so that the links will open in a new window – but I’m not all that technologically minded).
So these are in no order whatsoever (as you may notice I am a Michael Bublé fan - so if you are only going to listen to a couple of them make them Bublé!):

Although I have to admit I think Cry Me A River as sung by Michael Bublé would make a cracking James Bond movie theme.

“Ian Fleming’s James Bond in Cry Me A River” *cue the silhouettes of guns and women*

But I’m getting sidetracked here. Although I don’t think I’ve got an awful lot left to say…

Erm… nope I think that’s about it. But as soon as I post this I will no doubt think of a million more songs that I wanted to add!

Of course it was only after I'd signed up for this blogfest that I realised that really I should have taken part on my writing blog... as it is a kind of writing related blogfest - if you read Spunk On A Stick's original post on this blogfest. But never mind it is here now - but do pop over to my writing blog for a look around!

Teaser Tuesday - The Last One Until May

The rules of Teaser Tuesday are simple:

Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

And then head over to Should Be Reading to add your link.

So this week's teaser:

"You have never lived in a village, Ruth. The things that go on in a pure peaceful village would probably surprise you."

And this book counts towards the Mystery & Suspense Reading Challenge hosted by Book Chick City.

This is the last Teaser Tuesday I'm going to take part in until May. I'm taking part in the Blogging From A To Z Challenge in throughout April... so you'll be sick of me with out me teasing you as well!!!

For more information and sign up go to the A To Z Challenge Blog

Now seen as it starts on Sunday (being 1st April and all) I suppose I'd better start planning some posts - oops!

I've set up my random quotes for the month - each quote corresponding with the letter of the day... but for actually posts I've got nothing at the moment. I'm going for random subjects... but I better get on with it!

Random Thought #39 - Wear More

I, Chippy, hereby declare that I will wear more of the contents of my wardrobe (and the surrounding area) more often.

I will adjust and fix all the clothes that I bought with the intention of adjusting them to fit me.

I will give to charity or sell any clothes that I no longer want.

Gok Wan says 'buy less, wear more'...

Well I can do the 'wear more'... but do I have to do the 'buy less'?

Teaser Tuesday - And Now For Something Completely Different

It's Tuesday yet again.

First up is a quick reminder of the rules of this weekly book meme:

Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Then head over to Should Be Reading to add the link for your teaser.

This week I'm reading something historical... not that I never read historical novels... but it has been a while since I last read such a book. Anyway on with the teaser:

"In places the ground she passes is uneven, the grass lying in shallow hollows where a grave has subsided. A careless visitor, one who did not know his way, might plunge into one of these, plunge in up to waist or shoulders, even vanish entirely."

And this book counts towards the New Author Challenge 2012 as hosted by Literary Escapism

Random Quote #75

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow; but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.

Why I Don't Go On Facebook Much

Okay so I personally do not have a problem with Facebook. Granted all I ever did on Facebook was play games... constantly. And come up with fairly random status' via Status Shuffle... and wish people Happy Birthday.

But I haven't been on Facebook since October last year.

Why I hear you say?

Because my laptop and Facebook do not get on at all. If I go on Facebook and my laptop is plugged in then my laptop will overheat and close down. The first warning of which is the screen goes black... by which time it's too late to do anything about it. And that is even if I go on Facebook for a couple of minutes.

Why don't you just unplug your laptop, you ask?

Because Facebook also drains my laptop battery - which then require me to plug it back in and that results in the whole overheating problem again.

But I don't really miss Facebook... I feel a bit left out when there are competitions that involve Facebook... but then again I feel the same way about Twitter competitions as I don't have a Twitter account.

I'm guessing that my timeline will look a bit empty! (I read about the whole soon to be compulsory timeline thing - haven't actually seen it yet).

I don't think my laptop and Facebook will ever kiss and make-up though. And when choosing between the two I chose my laptop.

(And to anyone who suggests I go on Facebook at work - we were banned ages ago! Not surprisingly)

Teaser Tuesday

Here we are again - Teaser Tuesday!

And here are the rules:

Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Then dash over to Should Be Reading to add your link.

Now this is the third book in a trilogy. I was going to leave this book for now as I only read the second book in the trilogy a couple of weeks ago... but I had to find out what happened next!

*edit - have since discovered that this is not a trilogy. There's a fourth book due out in October. Which I'm very glad about otherwise I would be very p**sed off about how it ended!*

So here are my teasers:

"She dried her hands and went to her private altar room to recast the spell that would give her sight through the varcolai's eyes. She'd find out where he was, track him down, and kill him."

Page 230, Bad Blood (House of Comarre #3), Kristen Painter

This book counts towards the Horror & Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge hosted by Book Chick City.

And you may have noticed that I have a poll going in the side bar on the right - do feel free to vote on it! :)

Teaser Tuesday - Western Style!

Another week, another teaser...

And this week I have a western for you... which I don't normally read but this one caught my eye.

So the rules for this weekly meme are simple:

Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Then nip over to Should be Reading to add your link.

So my teaser for the week is:

"There was a storm at our backs, the last true storm of the winter, but we managed to keep ahead of it and made good time through the afternoon and into the night. We set up camp in a large, cave, its roof blackened with the soot of other men's fires."

Page 76, The Sisters Brothers - Patrick deWitt

And as I've never read any of Patrick deWitt's books before this book counts towards the New Author Challenge hosted by Literary Escapism.

Random Quote #73
